Winter Church House Study
This is a quick study of a winter scene with a small church house. I have been studying Richard Schmid’s landscape paintings and he uses a very high horizon line in his compositions with very little going on in the foreground. I though I would play around with this in some of my paintings.
I started by dividing the canvas into 5ths and place the horizon at the second 5th vertically. Then I simplified the foreground details. I like the overall effect and how your eye is quickly drawn to the subject. I will work on softening the other items in the painting as Mr Schmid does so masterfully!
Have you tried this approach? What do you think about it?
Hope you enjoy!
