The Portrait Project

One of the hard parts about being a painter is when people request you to “paint something for them”, for free of course! If you are an artist you know exactly what I am talking about.  The creator of PAideia, a classical education program, approached me with a request to paint a portrait of the “Perfect PAideia Student”.

This fictitious student is to have the following characteristics:

- Love the Lord
- Loves his parents
- Joyful and encouraging
- Helpful
- Respectful
- Displays Decorum ((n) decorum, propriety in manners and conduct)

  • classroom
  • lunchroom
  • sports filed
  • at home
  • at church
  • at the mall
  • always prepared in class and out

- Works towards his life’s goal of being a fully equipped servant of God.

As you can see this is an interesting challenge. I thought that this would be a great time to engage my painting students and see what we can pull together as a team. This is the first episode of us defining who this character is and starting the brainstorming of how we can pull this off!

The painting must be complete by January 12th!!!! You know these requests always come with unreasonable timelines!

Stay tuned for the next step in this process and let me know if you have any ideas that would work in this painting! Post them in the comments below.
